Dealing with a Split-Leg bookings

Split-Leg bookings may occur if you have two or more physical rooms affiliated (linked) to the same room type.  Split-Leg bookings are a significant strategy to fill the remaining available rooms. This improves both your occupancy and revenue. Maximising availability is essential. You want to be able to accept potential bookings if you have the space when shuffling bookings around.

How does a split-leg booking happen?

  • The Extranets and other booking channels you are connected (like Booking.com, Expedia and Agoda) can only see Room Type availability, and not the availability of your physical rooms.
  • The booking channel then notes that, across all the physical rooms within one room type, your property has availability.
  • When a guest searches for accommodation on these Extranets, it shows that you have availability for the period, and the booking channel will confirm and sends the booking through.

What will the rooms look on your calendar?

The room type 'Double Room' has the physical rooms 1 and 2 linked to it.

Should a guest search for accommodation in a Double Room, arriving 6 February and departing on 8 February, the booking channel will pick up that you can accommodate the booking based on the room type availability. This is as indicated by the yellow highlighted calendar blocks.

An example:

  • The guest wanted to stay in a double room for Thursday and Friday.
  • You have availability for this guest on Thursday in Room 2 and on Friday in Room 1.
  • This is split-leg availability.

How will the room type show online to your guests?

How do you know you have a split-leg booking?

On your calendar

If you are working on your calendar, the system will show a pop-up message that lets you know either a 'Split-Leg' or 'Double Booking' has occurred.  Click 'Yes' on the pop-up window.

Once you have clicked 'Yes'  you will be able to see which guest and booking is a split-leg booking or if a double booking has occurred.

By email

NightsBridge will always notify you of split-leg bookings by email.

How do I deal with a Split-Leg booking?

You can follow these steps to guide you.

What if you don't want Split-Leg bookings?

If you don't want split-leg bookings, each physical room will need to be linked to an individual room type.

This is not recommended if you have more than one room type of the same quality and type like 'Garden-Facing Double Room' as an example as this can cause issues with connections to booking channels when room types appear duplicated.
