Unfortunately, scams and credit card fraud happen in our industry like all others. Whilst you may not be able to avoid fraud, we'd like to share some information on ways you can manage or minimise the chance of being impacted by it.
Be vigilant in suspecting scams and credit card fraud
- There are a few things you can look out for when managing your payments which may indicate suspicious guest behaviour.
- Please look at our article on how to spot potential credit card fraud or scams if you need more information how how to do this.
Use a good check-in procedure
- A good check-in procedure is one where you verify the person checking-in is the rightful credit card holder and you obtain the documentation needed in case of a payment dispute after the guest has departed.
- We recommend you always apply a check-in procedure which covers these two aspects.
- Please look at our article on how to run a good check-in procedure if you need more information on how to do this.
Set all payments to 3D secure
- 3D secure adds an extra layer of protection when booking accommodation online.
- We recommend you set all your payments to 3D secure.
- Please look at our article on how 3D secure payments work if you need more information on how to do this.
Use a credit card checker or BIN list
- A Bank Identification Number (BIN) helps to identify and assess payment card transactions. A BIN list gives you information on a specific credit card which can help work out if a payment may be fraudulent.
- We recommend you do a BIN check for any suspicious looking transactions.
- Please look at our article on how to run a credit card through a credit card checker or BIN list if you need more information on how to do this.
