How Your Discounts Display on Airbnb when using the Standard Connection

When you set up different promotions, you want to be sure they look right to potential guests browsing Airbnb. Thanks to your Standard Connection, those specials are designed to stand out. Here is a simple guide to how they appear on screen, which ones get a strikethrough rate, and how stacking works when you run more than one offer at once.

Strikethrough Prices: Which Specials Get the Spotlight?

We all love seeing a classic "strikethrough" price (where the original rate is crossed out and the new, cheaper rate is highlighted next to it). It immediately tells guests they are getting a great deal.

On the Standard Connection, Airbnb displays this visual highlight for some, but not all, of your promotions:

Long-Term Discounts (Long Stay Discounts)
These get a beautiful, clear strikethrough once a guest meets your stay-length conditions.
Early-Bird Discounts
If a guest is planning ahead and books within your early-bird window, they will see the original price crossed out with your special rate highlighted.
Seasonal Adjustments (Basic Discounts)
These do not show with a strikethrough. Because seasonal pricing can go either up or down depending on the time of year, Airbnb simply displays the final adjusted rate as the standard price for those dates.
Last-Minute Discounts
These do not display with a strikethrough. The guest will see your lower rate, but it won't have the visual crossed-out price next to it.

The Stacking Rule: Keeping Your Margins Safe

If you are generous enough to offer several types of discounts, you might worry that a guest could combine offers and stack them all together, leaving you with a rate that is far too low.

You can rest easy: Airbnb's general rule is that discounts do not stack.

If a guest qualifies for a last-minute discount and a weekly discount for the same dates, Airbnb's system will only apply one discount. However, there are two very important exceptions to this rule that always stack on top of other promotions:

  1. Seasonal Adjustments: These always apply first, and other discounts are calculated on top of them.
  2. Non-Refundable Discounts: Technically, Airbnb views this as a cancellation policy rather than a standard discount, but because it gives guests a cheaper option in exchange for peace of mind, it stacks on top of any other discount they qualify for.

How Airbnb Decides Which Discount Wins

When a guest qualifies for more than one non-stacking discount, Airbnb uses a strict priority list to decide which one to show. Only the single discount highest on this list will apply for that night:

  1. New Listing Promotion (This takes absolute priority to help fresh listings get their first bookings)
  2. Custom Promotions
  3. Length-of-Stay Discounts (like your weekly, monthly, or custom stay-length specials)
  4. Early-Bird Discounts
  5. Last-Minute Discounts

For example:

If you are running a special custom promotion and you also have a last-minute discount active, and a guest qualifies for both, Airbnb will only apply the custom promotion because it sits higher on the priority list. Your last-minute discount won't apply to that booking, ensuring your pricing stays balanced and fair.
