NightsBridge Client Tutorials

Why am I being asked for an OTP every time I log in?

There is nothing quite like the rush of a busy morning at a property. You sit down with your coffee, open your computer to check your arrivals, and - instead of your calendar - you are greeted by a screen asking for a One-Time Password (OTP).

When you verify your device with an OTP, NightsBridge is actually designed to remember you and keep you logged in safely for a few months. Having to enter a code every single day is a frustrating detour you don’t need.

So, why does it keep happening?

The Secure Handshake (And Why It Gets Lost)

When you enter an OTP for the first time, NightsBridge and your web browser perform a secure "handshake". To remember this handshake, your browser saves a tiny, harmless digital memory card called a cookie.

Every time you log in, NightsBridge quietly looks for that memory card. If it's there, you are waved straight through to your dashboard.

If you are being asked for an OTP every single day, it means your browser is erasing that digital memory card. Here are the four main reasons why your browser might be being a little too tidy:

1. You are using a "Private" or "Incognito" window

Private browsing windows are built to be completely forgetful. The very second you close an incognito tab, your browser throws away every single cookie and memory card it collected. Because that secure handshake is lost, NightsBridge will have to ask you for a brand-new OTP next time.

2. Your browser is set to "auto-clean" on exit

Some web browsers are configured to do a deep clean every time they close. If your browser is set to automatically wipe its history and cookies whenever you shut down your computer or close your windows, it will forget who you are by tomorrow morning.

3. Overprotective security software is sweeping behind you

Sometimes, helpful antivirus programs, internet security suites, or ad-blocking privacy extensions can be a bit overprotective. They can quietly slip behind your browser and sweep away your saved cookies and trusted device handshakes without you ever realizing it.

4. Your office IT department is running automatic cleanups

If your property's office computer is managed by an external IT company or organizational network, they often set up automated safety policies. These policies frequently reset browser settings, force private browsing, or delete cookies every single evening to keep the network secure.
