Requiring a breakage or damage deposit is a great way to protect your accommodation and give yourself peace of mind. While you can easily set up deposit rules inside your NightsBridge account, it's helpful to know how those settings interact with online channels like Booking.com.
Here is a guide to how damage deposits work between NightsBridge and Booking.com, and how to manage them on your listing.
When will NightsBridge set up the deposit on Booking.com?
If you have added a breakage or damage deposit in your NightsBridge setup, please note that this detail does not automatically send over to Booking.com.
- When NightsBridge creates your listing: NightsBridge will only include your damage deposit settings on Booking.com if our team creates your Booking.com listing on your behalf from scratch.
- For existing listings: If your Booking.com listing is already live, adding or updating a breakage deposit in NightsBridge will not automatically update your Booking.com page.
The Most Important Thing to Remember:
Always log into your Booking.com Extranet to verify that your damage deposit conditions and amounts display accurately to prospective guests.
Managing your damage deposit on the Booking.com Extranet
To set up or adjust your breakage deposit for Booking.com guests, you will manage it directly inside your Booking.com Extranet. Booking.com offers two main ways to handle potential guest damage:
Option 1: Let Booking.com facilitate the process
Through Booking.com's damage programme, guests do not pay a deposit upfront. If damage happens during a stay:
- You report the damage directly through Booking.com.
- Booking.com evaluates the report and facilitates the payment request with the guest according to their programme terms.
Option 2: Collect and manage the deposit yourself
If you prefer to handle damage deposits directly with your guests:
- The guest pays the damage deposit directly to you (before or upon arrival).
- You hold the funds during their stay.
- After checking the room at departure, you determine if any amount needs to be withheld or return the full deposit directly to the guest. (Booking.com does not collect, hold, or refund these deposits on your behalf).
